Railtrack, Chesterfield.

Shepherd Design.

A design study for Railtrack for the regeneration of the existing station at Chesterfield to accommodate 800,000 passengers a year, there were two main project requirements (1) to maintain a fully operational station and this was achieved by phased construction and the use of some temporary buildings, and (2) to integrate pedestrian and cycle routes ensuring segregation of these routes from vehicular traffic, both public and private. Greg’s design reflects an efficient and modern transportation system with a clean, light and transparent structure that respects the architecture of the railways and provides a landmark building.
